20 Places Around the World Named or Translate to Love

We all know of the romantic places around the world like Paris, France or Venice, Italy, but what about places named Love or translate to Love?

At first, I was looking at doing an article on odd or funny city names around the world (and I still will), but I came across a couple of places that translate to love. Then I decided to see just how many places there were around the world like this.

Here is what I found:


Agapi, Greece

Greek meaning Love


It is a tiny village of around 30 people located in northern Greece and located 185 miles (298 kilometers) northwest of Athens, the capital of Greece.


Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Modern Persian (ešq-âbâd) loosely meaning City of Love

Located in central Asia, Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan. It is about 16 miles (26 kilometers) north of the border to Iran.


Bang Rák, Thailand

Thai meaning Village of Love

Bang Rák is a District in Thailand with a population around 50,000. It is a popular place for marriages, especially around Valentine’s Day.

Polish meaning Love

A village located in southern Poland. It is about 137 miles (220 kilometers) northwest of Warsaw, the capital of Poland.

Zulu meaning Love Island 

A private island in the Indian Ocean 16 miles (26 kilometers) east from the coast of Tanzania, Africa. It can accommodate up to 18 people.

Sotho meaning Place of Love

This village is located in the northeast part of the country about 14 miles (22 kilometers) northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa. As of 2011, they had a population of 5,100.

Yoruba meaning Love

This is a large city of 500,000 people, in the southwest part of the country. It is located about 42 miles (68 kilometers) east of Ibadan, the capital of Nigeria.

A village located in the province of Saskatchewan. Named after Tom Love, who was the conductor on the first train to pass through the area. It is located 210 miles (338 kilometers) north of Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan.

An unincorporated Hamlet-(small settlement, tinier than a village), located in the northeast corner of the state. It is about 128 miles (206 kilometers) east of Dallas, Texas.

An unincorporated community 41 miles (66 kilometers) southwest of Charlottesville, Virginia.
