A few years ago, I wrote, 20 Places Around the World Named or Translate to Love. I like geography and I just thought it was a fun article.

Well, so far in 2023, this silly article has been my most google searched article. Getting hits mainly in the United States, but also in Europe.

So, I decided to do a little more digging, and I found 8 more places that are named or translate to love.

Tongan meaning Abode of Love


Nukuʻalofa is the capital and largest city of Tonga. It is located on the north coast of the island of Tongatapu, in the country's southernmost island group. As of 2022, the population is around 27,600 in the city.


Lyubov, Ukraine

Slavic origin meaning Love. It comes from the basic word l'ub (Latin: caritas). Spelling variations include Lyubov, Liubov or Lubov.

Lyubov is a hamlet in Ukraine and has about 25 residents. It is 256 mi (or 412 km) south-east of Kiev, the country's capital.

Liubov is a small village near the border of Mongolia, in Eastern Siberia. I could not find any statistics on this village.

Liubov is the 2nd village in Russia with the same name, but this one is about 210 miles (338 km), southeast of Moscow. Again, I could not find any statistics on this village.

Vietnamese meaning Valley of Love

Thung lũng tình yêu is not a city, village, or town, but is a scenic area in Da Lat, Vietnam, about 3 miles (5 km) north of the city center.

In the 1930’s, it was first named Vallée d'Amour and was where French couples came for dates.

Portuguese meaning Love.

Amor is a village in Leiria, Beira Litoral and has about 4,870 residents. It is 76 miles (122 km) north of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.

Amor is a township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 558 at the 2020 census.

Amor Township was organized in 1879 and named for the Latin word meaning "love".

It is 155 miles (249 km) northwest from Minneapolis, the state capital of Minnesota.

Love Hill is an unincorporated community in Alabama. It is 105 miles (169 km) southwest from Montgomery, the state capital of Alabama.
